Jonathan Edwards is a well known and highly regarded American ecclesiastical figure. As a preacher and an active revivalist in the Great Awakening he is highly respected and almost venerated as a commanding historical figure. And certainly his accomplishments are worthy of significant respect and admiration. However he was both a preacher-pastor and a theologian-philosopher. His attainments as the latter are, at least in some areas, more problematical.
